This website has been setup to help promote the fundraising activities for charities associated with the treatment and research of teenage cancers and in particular, bone cancer. The site has been created in memory of my brother, Alexander Albiston. 'Alex' was an inspirational young man who was diagnosed with bone cancer when he was just 17 years old, went on to achieve top A level grades and a place at Cambridge University whilst battling the disease in his last year in the school sixth form. Alexander sadly died aged 18 in March 2010, but his story has inspired others to continue to raise funds to support teenage cancer charities.
Tell me more...
The annual charity football match between Alex's friends and former teachers of Wickersley School & Sports College was held on Friday 30th March. The match which was once again officiated by local World Cup referee Howard Webb MBE, saw Alex's friends run out 3-1 winners in another closely fought contest - see Previous Events for more match details. Importantly, £1,777 was raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust by collecting donations on the gate and through a raffle at pitchside. This means that the total raised in the 3 football matches held in the 2 years since Alex passed away is almost £8,000! There are too many individual thank-you's to list here, but a special thanks to Danny Willis and Andy Rawlin for organising the match, to the players involved in the match, to Miss Collins for her help on the gate, to Hollie and Ella for running the raffle and finally to Howard Webb for his continued support to this event.
EDF Energy £863 Donation to BCRT
At the charity match, a cheque for £863 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust was presented by Andrew Teasdale on behalf of EDF Energy. The money was donated following a vote on charity nominations made by employees at EDF Energy. Andrew nominated the BCRT and circulated details of Alex Albiston's story to his colleagues. His nomination which was 1 of 6 was the overwhelming winner. See photos of the cheque presentation in the Previous Events section.
